bitmapdreams is a pixel site showcasing my handmade collection of medium-small graphic items in GIF format. I bring you the cute, sweet, and nostalgic from the inspiration I find at my home in Kyoto, Japan.
it all began back in primary school at my friend's house, where I became captivated by the graphics for Street Fighter II. when I received a purple Gameboy Color for my 11th birthday, I fell in love with pixel graphics anew. I started pixelling on iDraw, a pixel art program that came packaged with RPGMaker2000, and created this website as a way to show my work to friends.
since 2001--surviving high school, my move to Japan, college, employment, marriage, pregnancy, and the birth of my child--bitmapdreams has grown and grown. all the while my site has come to be viewed by people all around the world. thanks for visiting! I hope this site has inspired you to try some pixelling for yourself!
to commemorate 15 years of pixel art, I kicked off a new project this past year called 'new52colors.' I whittled down my palette to just 52 colors--13 core colors and 4 variations of each. drawing from different memories in my young adult life, I have spent the past year creating 13 themed collections of pixel art.
I have also tried responsibly making physical things out of my digital artwork! after much research, I reached out to a handful of companies and successfully created charms, pin badges, stickers, and notebooks, made in either the US or Japan of US and Japanese materials. I have also teamed up with UK-based Rapanui to provide sustainable, traceable, ethically accredited print-on-demand tshirts for my fans. if you like what you see here, please visit my etsy and Teemill, and consider bringing a little something of mine into your life ❤
